Last weekend we had a wonderful time visiting the Isle of Skye (see Stewart’s blog with the photos!). This was the first time we’d been there but Dad has been a few times and it’s by far his favourite place. Now I know why. It is simply stunning. Perfect I guess and the fact that highland cattle were so close by was a bonus for me because they’re just lovely (well they are)!
The further north you go the more breathtaking the landscape becomes although I must admit that Glencoe is one of my favourite places in the world. When we drove through on the way there the rain turned to sleet and showed how bleak it can be. But its beauty was even more pronounced and it reminded me of the majesty of God. I felt quite small. And emotional. It’s a very mysterious and spiritual place.
The weather soon picked up and the sun shone most of the weekend. Maybe it was luck or maybe it was just planned that I should find such a lovely guest house with a warm welcome, comfortable bed and big hearty breakfast. Caryl and Duncan (Darnbrook Guest House) were great for suggesting places to visit and, without their knowledge, we may never have found the places we did. So a big thanks goes to them for their hospitality and making the weekend a memorable one.
I can’t wait to go back to do some hill walking … not in the too distant future if I get my way!

I’m so glad you enjoyed your adventure on Skye! It is my favorite place on the planet (so far!). I feel like I can touch the bones of the earth there. I remember being amused at how many Scots had never been to the Isle and how many Americans make it a holiday destination. Try the Quarang for amazing hillwalking.
